COMBICHRIST Presents No Redemption

January 31, 2013

No Redemption

Soundtrack for Videogame DmC Devil May Cry
“As an avid gamer myself I was honored to be asked to work on this project,” saysCOMBICHRIST mastermind Andy LaPlegua, regarding his latest project No Redemption, his soundtrack to the Capcom videogame DmC Devil May Cry. “I had a lot of fun digging myself into Dante’s psyche in order to create music to match the battle scenes and am equally as excited to license existing Combichrist music.” Not quite the follow-up to 2010’s Making Monsters nor far removed either, No Redemption is a brutal and unrelenting musical excursion into a nightmarish videogame world. It explores the dynamic and violent realm, seen through the eyes of DmC’s Dante, a young man who has no respect for authority or society in general.
Culled from a collection of 27 new tracks Andy wrote specifically for the game, the 13 tracks that make up No Redemption are an apocalyptic fusion of Industrial, Electro and Metalcore – unyielding yet cinematic and stunning. From the breakneck kickoff of “Age of Mutation” to the moody and atmospheric “Feed the Fire” to the machine gun assault of “How Old Is Your Soul”No Redemption isn’t for the squeamish. Stereoboard accurately described the album as “a massive sonic onslaught of aggressive, electronic walls of sound, spiced up with hefty Metalcore elements that complements the game’s battle scenes perfectly.”
In addition to the 27 new tracks Andy wrote, Capcom also licensed ten tracks from Combichrist's past including"Sent To Destroy" (from 2009's Today We Are All Demons), "Get Your Body Beat" (from 2007's What The F*ck Is Wrong With You People) and "Throat Full Of Glass" (from 2010's Making Monsters). Out Of Line has released a limited edition 2-CD digipak of No Redemption that is exclusively available in Europe and that includes the 13 No Redemption tracks and the ten licensed tracks.

Starting off in the dark metal and hardcore soul of Norway, Andy LaPlegua led a few seminal bands in the Norwegian underground (including Fleshfire and Lash Out) before fusing electronics and dance beats and forming Combichrist in 2003 and releasing their incredibly well-respected EBM/Industrial debut The Joy of Gunz. The following four albums witnessed the band's evolution of their self-described "techno body music", which was described as "a journey through hell and high water, through the eyes of a serial killer, sex, violence and plenty of Jack Daniels on ice."
No Redemption will be released in the U.S. on February 5, 2013 by Out Of Linefor the world outside of Japan (January 25, 2013 for Europe) and byColumbia/Nippon for Japan (February 20, 2013). The official as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2010’s Making Monsters is scheduled for release later this year.

Black Veil Brides "Wretched and Devine"

Many people take one look at Black Veil Brides and never give them a chance. That, my friends, is a huge mistake. Having followed the evolution of this band from the time Andy Biersack was just a punk kid trying to make himself famous on Myspace, I have learned that there is some serious determination, intelligence, and skill going on with this band, and it's just taking the world a little while to recognize that. The fact that they have the inimitable John Feldman helming this record, taking on the producing, recording and mixing duties says something about their desire to grasp for both respect and world domination, something akin to what Feldman led The Used to. Indeed, frontman Bert McCracken of The Used even makes a guest appearance here providing guest vocals on "Days Are Numbered". Juliet Simms, of Automatic Loveletter reknown, but perhaps even better known for competing on The Voice, also makes an appearance in support. But, perhaps the most interesting supporting role goes to William Control as "The Voice of F.E.A.R.", in a narration capacity that helps tie together the concept album narrative.

While correlations can be drawn to My Chemical Romance's creation of The Killjoys, make no mistake, Wretched and Devine, and it's accompanying mythos of "The Wild Ones" is profoundly unique to Black Veil Brides. Post apocalyptic themes of government oppression and religion gone awry can be interpreted and analyzed on this album, or you can just take it for what it is, a flat out great rock album. Feldman did a masterful job of both bringing out Andy's best vocal effort to date, and featuring the impressive guitar stylings of Jinxx and Jake. This is a young band that is ever-evolving and it's fascinating to ponder where they may turn next.

Fronted by guitarist Christian Martucci, who’s performed with rock greats like Corey Taylor (Slipknot) and Dee Dee Ramone (Ramones), along with drummer Dylan Howard (Unwritten Law) and bassist Pat Kim, Thousand Watt Stare got their start in 2010 with the release of their debut EP and never slowed down from there.
After sell-out dates along the West Coast and the addition of guitarist Trevor Howard, Thousand Watt Stare returned to the studio in 2011 to record their debut full-length albumSilver Dimes, which transcended the previous EP, carrying the band out of their comfortable punk-influenced rock ‘n’ roll into a deeper and darker territory.
"I've been in a few bands over the years that were expected to sound a certain way and it just never made me happy," says Martucci.  "It's all about feel...  That's the thing that makes this band special to us.  There are no rules."

This March Crossfaith will embark on their first ever US tour supporting Shikari. The tour will last the entire month and cover the east coast to the deep south. Get tickets here:
Unique in their home country of Japan, CROSSFAITH combine metalcore, hardcore, samples and electronica to create groundbreaking music that transcends genres. Their 2009 debut album ‘The Artificial Theory For The Dramatic Beauty’ (Zestone Records) served as the catalyst which kick-started the Japanese screamo / metalcore scene and they have been at the top of their game ever since.
It didn’t take long for the bug to catch – soon after their debut release the band found themselves opening for a diverse set of acts such as Machine Head, Hatebreed, August burns Red, Piece The Veil, blessthefall and Alesana to name but a few before playing to thousands of fans at the prestigious Loud Park Festival in Japan.2010 saw the phenomenon spread west - ‘The Artificial Theory…’ received a European release on Gan-Shin records and was met with critical acclaim throughout. With an unstoppable work ethic the band hit the studio to record their sophomore release ‘The Dream, The Space’ with producer Andrew Wade (who’s credits include A Day To Remember). Released in Japan in April 2011, the band took to the road to promote the record, playing to 10,000 fans at Summer Sonic festival which helped garner interest from infamous US label Tragic Hero. Soon the band toured outside of Japan for the first time, opening for Parkway Drive across China and Alesana in South Asia.
After blowing crowds away on their debut UK tour in support of ‘Of Mice & Men’, the band return to the UK on November 10th as part of the Vans Warped Tour at London’s Alexandra Palace – while in the meantime making their mark in the rest of the World.
Recorded with the legendary ‘Machine’ (Lamb of God/Everytime I Die/Four Year Strong) in New York; Crossfaith have released their brand new ‘Zion’ EP Worldwide featuring 6 tracks of breakneck, electro-infused energy and invention.

Hell Or Highwater "Begin Again"

To say that this album is the first of the new year to join the list of nominees for Best Album of 2013 goes a long way in revealing the great writing, powerful performances, and stunning production that populate this disc. Due for release from Pavement Entertainment on Feb 5th,  BEGIN AGAIN,        the debut album from Hell or Highwater, puts Brandon Saller and his band firmly in line for major success. While this material has already seen independent release a couple of years ago, Saller and company are back with a label, bonus material, and a whole lot of swagger, to try and garner this album the attention it deserved, yet missed, the first time around.

To describe it stylistically, take the classic arena rock style of bands like Journey (who were actually cool back in the day), roughed up with nods to current bands like Avenged Sevenfold (and not just on the track that M. Shadows appears on).Melodic enough to be highly commercially viable, and yet badass enough to earn respect, BEGIN AGAIN, is an excellent debut effort. Striking a wide swath through cultural and musical references, there's really something for everyone to like about this record, including the strikingly punked up cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer", listed as a bonus track. This track alone has the potential to earn Hell or Highwater the kind of never ending radio play that The Ataris earned for their cover of "Boys of Summer".

This record has set the bar for all other rock albums to live up to this year.

Hell or Highwater Tour Dates (w/The Darkenss):

Jon DeRosa's Aarktica Featured in Sundance Film Festival's 'The Crash Reel'!

Jon DeRosa's Aarktica Featured in  Sundance Film Festival's 'The Crash Reel'!

Playing Largehearted Boy's 11th Anniversary Celebration On January 30th In Brooklyn!

DeRosa will be also the musical guest at Largehearted Boy's 11th Anniversary celebration. The event is at Word bookstore in Brooklyn, NY on January 30th, details available here!

Praise For Jon DeRosa:
"Jon DeRosa is a living, breathing, gateway to a simpler time in the Jersey Shore’s musical history, reaching back into the annals of our culture when artistic scenes resided, not in boardwalk-based clubs and locales, but on street corners, outside store fronts, and in the minds of the same Gospel and Soul singers who would influence the likes of Bruce Springsteen and Southside Johnny." -- Speak Into My Good Eye
""True Men sets a more wistful tone, boxing serving as its central metaphor. Over a sweeping arrangement straight out of late 50s Ricky Nelson, DeRosa lets the double entendres fly. “I’ve woken the neighbors, after hard nights of labor,” is the closing mantra. And who hasn’t? But the way he sets it up – and then knocks it down – is sweet science."" -- New York Music Daily
"One of the most striking features of [Birds of Brooklyn] is DeRosa’s rich baritone. It resembles Morrissey’s a bit in its grand, expressiveness (with maybe the slightest dash of his childhood hero Glenn Danzig thrown in as well). The music itself is lovely. A lilting, slightly Latin rhythm guides the verses under gentle acoustic guitar and mellow keys.." - KUT -Song of the Day
"What strikes you is DeRosa's capable crooning. Sounding not unlike a teen-idol and writing like a stalwart, this man is equal parts Neil Hannon, Richard Hawley, Scott Walker (the '60s version), Bobby Darin and DeRosa himself." - Flipside, UK

Jon DeRosa's other musical project Aarktica has been featured on the soundtrack of upcoming documentary, 'The Crash Reel'. Aarktica has contributed the song 'You Have Cured A Million Ghosts (From Roaming in My Head)' to a soundtrack that includes Moby, Spiritualized, Chemical Brothers and M83. 'Crash Reel' is directed by Academy Award-nominated Lucy Walker and  tells  the harrowing, yet uplifting story of U.S champion snowboarder Kevin Pierce.  'Crash Reel' will be screened for the first time at the Sundance Film Festival,  details on the screening available here!
About Jon DeRosa:
Jon DeRosa (b. 21 December, 1978) is a guitarist, composer and singer/songwriter from Brooklyn, NY. Raised in the small shore town of Manasquan, NJ, DeRosa grew up idolizing Glenn Danzig, while studying classical and flamenco guitar and memorizing the entire output of 4AD and Projekt Records.  It was with this eclectic background that he began his approach to writing and recording music. DeRosa has been involved with many musical projects including dark folk/goth band Dead Leaves Rising, followed by the dreamy atmospheric sounds of Aarktica.  In 1998 Jon DeRosa lost nearly all hearing in his right ear which sparked the birth of Aarktica (a project that remains active over a decade later) as well as his study of Indian classical vocal music with La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela.
In addition to Aarktica, Jon plays guitar with with New York City chamber pop ensemble Flare. DeRosa also briefly recorded under the name Pale Horse and Rider, releasing two albums of urban country songs during this time. Rob O’Connor at CMJ remarked “DeRosa’s not unlike the downcast end of Springsteen. ‘Jersey Coast Line’ [from 2002’s These Are The New Good Times] could very well be Nebraska‘s 11th track.”
In 2006, DeRosa lent his voice to Stephin Merritt’s opera “The Peach Blossom Fan”, as the role of Hou Fang Yu. Some of his contributions were first featured on Merritt’s Showtunes album (Nonesuch, 2006). “The Peach Blossom Fan” became available in its entirety in 2008 (Nonesuch).
DeRosa continues to record as Aarktica, his most recent releases being 2009/10’s In Sea and In Sea Remixes.
In 2011, DeRosa unveiled his first eponymous release, the Anchored EP. Novelist Ed Park (The Believer) said of it: “At first, Jon DeRosa’s Anchored EP, a quartet of gorgeously layered chamber-pop shanties, seems leagues away from the voluptuous Lovecraftian drift he perfected under his moniker Aarktica. But there are dark spaces here, too, room to brood in the sweet gravel of his voice, in Julia Kent’s penetrating cello lines, and in the quiet violence of the lyrics. With a depth that belies its brief running time, Anchored is so perfect that it literally gives you the chills.”
On November 5/6 2012 DeRosa will released the album A Wolf In Preacher's Clothing internationally via RocketGirl Records.

"Knopf’s unpredictable melodies and funky orchestral arrangements (played by 35 indie- rock acquaintances!) keep tracks like “I Say Fever” and “Always Right” lively, resulting in an album that leans more toward epic than emo." - SPIN
"In fact, of the various Menomena side projects, this is the one that most matches that band in terms of both sound and quality, paying meticulous attention to sonic and compositional details." - Pitchfork
"Knopf crafts the same kind of cerebral pop songs that made his former band so successful, but voice as a songwriter shines through in a way it never did before, unencumbered by Menomena’s inherently collaborative nature." - Seattle Weekly

Like most of us, Brent Knopf watches a lot of YouTube videos, only he’s not watching kittens playing piano. Rather, his tastes err on the more experimental side of things—like people who attempt perpetual motion machines using magnets. “I love that they’re trying to harness an endless supply of energy,” says the Ramona Falls frontman, “and that they go against conventional wisdom in the hopes of true discovery.”
Which is exactly what Knopf did last year, when he decided to quit the acclaimed art rock trio Menomena and devote his time to one epic, personal vision. “False freedom is the ratification of pre-rigged choices,” the musician paraphrases the philosopher Noam Chomsky, “while true freedom is the agency to shape the choices themselves.” But as Knopf is learning now with a full-time focus on a former side project, freedom comes with greater risk. Prophet, the second Ramona Falls album, is sonically, lyrically and thematically brighter. It’s also more organic and personal than anything he ever contributed to Menomena, or as the singer/multi-instrumentalist explains, “it’s more of a rapid transit line between my sleeve and my heart.”
“With Ramona Falls I am exploring what I stand for which makes it more personal to me,” Knopf admits. “I’m less worried now about being made fun of, than I was before. I can now say things I believe in, and some people may think it’s stupid or cheesy...but that’s kind of fun. I would much rather speak from the heart than hide behind impenetrable obfuscation.”
That emotional honesty and creative fearlessness is certainly paying off. Prophet is an album that recalls the experimental beauty of Laughing Stock by Talk Talk, and the unabashed earnestness of his old labelmates Death Cab For Cutie. Knopf appreciates those highly regarded comparisons but when pressed for the true inspirations that fed into his overall vision, he cites Martin Gore of Depeche Mode’s dark chordal elements, a production style halfway between Tears for Fears and the Homosexuals, and lyrical themes that channel a dyslexic Jorge Luis Borges if he starred in Flowers for Algernon.
Recorded with bandmates Paul Alcott (drums, and also, ironically, Knopf’s replacement in Menomena), Matt Sheehy (guitar), and Dave Lowensohn (bass) and featuring guest appearances by four other friends, the stunning album begins with “Bodies of Water,” an emotive and rousing anthem about how intimacy bundles together both nourishment and peril. “Spore,” a heartfelt highlight of Prophet bears a substantive core: “I like the idea of someone refusing to feel lonely, despite how utterly alone they might actually be,” Knopf explains. “It’s a form of rebellion.” But the 11 tracks are not all exercises in introspective fragility; “Brevony” is Knopf’s most unleashed moment with gnarling guitars ambushing the listener at the chorus on all sides.
Prophet, the album’s title, is an homage to Knopf’s religious upbringing, a titular reference to a worldview that reveres exalted seers who assert meaning despite the chaos. But as the newly empowered songwriter has discovered with Ramona Falls, it’s a better strategy to embrace the chaos. And then refashion it into a beautiful noise.

With their first two LP’s cracking Billboard’s Top 200 and appearances on such shows Good Morning America, Rachael Ray, Live with Regis and Kelly, MTV’s 10 on Top and the Teen Choice Awards, Allstar Weekend has built up a strong and fiercely loyal fanbase (i.e. well over 21 million plays on Youtube, 250,000 followers on twitter and 1 million + friends of Facebook) that has enabled them to tour with the likes of Selena Gomez, Hot Chelle Rae and Demi Lovato and The Ready Set to name a few.

Allstar Weekend’s latest single “Life As We Know It” has been in regular rotation on SiriusXM’s Hits 1. The music video for the track can be viewed here: The follow-up single "The Last Time" will be impacting at Top 40 radio to coincide with the tour.

The band is currently recording their 3rd LP in Nashville with producer Jason Lehning (Mat Kearney). The release is expected in early 2013.

About Allstar Weekend:

This is the story of Allstar Weekend, formerly known as Allstar, and formerly-formerly known (or not-so-known) as Outerspace Politicians.

The story goes something like this...

Zach and Cameron met in Middle School in the San Diego suburb of Poway , California . Zach taught Cameron how to not be socially awkward, although recently, those roles seemed to have reversed. In High School, Zach started a band and put some jamz up on Myspace. That's how long ago it was...Myspace. The demos included the song "Dance Forever," which was recorded in their bedroom. The songs caught the attention of brother and sister team / owners of the independent, influential, trend-setting, and world-renowned label Drive-Thru Records, Stefanie Reines & Richard Reines (the former of the two who is obviously writing this bio). Stefanie and Richard were best known for their incredible ability to recognize and cultivate young, raw talent, and immediately saw it in "Outerspace Politicians."

Zach convinced Cam to learn to play bass, and their friend Michael Martinez emailed the band asking if they needed a drummer...they did! Michael happened to attend their rival High School and beat Zach in an "Air Band" competition, which remains a sore subject to this day. Anyway, the band now complete, the two teams joined forces - band and management - and set out to change the world and/or have some fun and make music.

First order of business: get rid of that atrocious band name. Name changed to Allstar.
Second order of business: not get sued by the NBA. "Weekend" added to band name. Still a legal issue, but soon sorted out and able to co-exist in peace & harmony.

The band was signed a year later to Hollywood Records. Singles, videos, photo shoots, ep, album, extended ep, Youtube videos, good stuff, bad stuff, fun stuff, not so fun stuff, cool people, not so cool people, ups, downs, highs, lows...whew! The outcome: an amazing fanbase who we love & cherish, some lifelong friends, and an album that we are still very proud of (All The Way) with the exception of a certain song (hint: it includes an ellipsis in the title).

To walk in the valley of the shadow of Mickey (ie Burbank, CA)...No matter how appealing it seemed, ASW never fully fit the Disney "mold." There were no TV shows, no movies, no promise rings, no smoke and mirrors. Just real dudes making real music wanting to do real tours and make real youtube videos without having to do some real censoring! They loved the H'wood years, and for the record, the band all LOVE Disney, but it was time for them to move on. And so they asked to be let out of their deal. No joke. They were not dropped. Hollywood was kind enough to recognize the band's vision was different from theirs, and it was time to move along.

Welcome to present day A-Dub. "The songs we're writing now we are more proud of than anything we've ever written" says Zach. This August we launched a Kickstarter and reached our funding goal in 24 hours!  With the support of our fans, we are able to begin recording our third full-length record Dec 10 in Nashville with Producer Jason Lehning (Mat Kearney, Steve Forbert).

A handful of these new songs will be debuted on our Headlining Tour, which starts in Anaheim , CA at the House of Blues on January 19, 2013. Joining us on tour is Cute Is What We Aim For and YouTube star Tiffany Alvord.
