6th Annual Musink Festival: Saturday 3/9/13

Saturday was day 2 of the 6th annual Musink Festival, and if you have never been to a tattoo convention before, to call it an experience would be putting it far too mildly. You may have thought you knew tattoos. You may even have a few. But you have never seen so many people, condensed into one small space, for whom tattoos are quite such a dramatic life statement.

The festival is basically divided into three main parts. The outside booths for food/drink/fun.

Then there is the INK HALL. This is where some
of the most famous tattoo artists in the world, along with lesser known locals, and some of the most brilliant up-and-coming stars of the tattoo world set up booths to not only show off their work, but apply their talents right then and there for those lucky enough to book some of their time. If you have ever debated a tattoo, or adding to your ever growing collection, this is definitely the place to meet and mingle. Our personal recommendation would be to meet up with up-and-coming star of the tattoo world Dani Gosiaco who you can find at the Red Buddha booth if you are headed to the final day of the convention.

The third section of Musink is, of course, the Music Hall. The Friday night lineup featured Guttermouth, The Vandals, and Bad Religion. Saturday was headlined by Pennywise, and also featured COR, T.S.O.L., and Lagwagon, and if you are headed out to the show today, you will be treated to the musical stylings of Johnny Two Bags, Lucero, and The Reverend Horton Heat (which was a lineup we covered at Hootenany this year).  Best lines from the stage would have to be a tie between Jack of T.S.O.L. stating that he refused to be the backing track for Youtube videos of a fight in the crowd, or the boys of Lagwagon thanking the photogs leaving the pit for having bothered to take photos of their "ugly faces". Musically, these boys may have gotten older, but good punks they remain.
