The Rocketboys Get Set For SXSW

THE ROCKETBOYS TAKEOVER SXSW WITH NEW SINGLE FROM FORTHCOMING STUDIO ALBUM

February 29, 2012 – Los Angeles, CA – In anticipation of their upcoming performances at SXSW, Austin based indie rock trio The Rocketboys have debuted a brand new song, “Bloodless,” from their long-awaited new full-length album, Build Anyway, which is scheduled for release on June 5.  The band is set to perform seven shows at SXSW in March; Dates are listed below.

Recorded in their home studio and mixed by CK Eiriksson (U2, Live, Phish), Build Anyway chronicles the emotions that surface through the brokenness in abandonment to the search for peace and closure, both personally and musically.  Frontman Brandon Kinder conveys the feelings dreamily as he paints a haunting, yet heartfelt picture with his rich crooning vocals on the album’s debut track, “Bloodless,” giving fans a preview of what’s to come on Build Anyway.

On their previous recordings, 20,000 Ghosts and Wellwisher, The Rocketboys perfectly married themes of unity and brotherhood with rich, soaring rock, lifting the band to national critical acclaim.  The band supported its releases with lengthy tours and multiple festival appearances but inevitably the rigors of the road took their toll, eventually rupturing the band's momentum in the winter of 2010-11. Three members of the sextet of college friends from Abilene, Texas left to focus on other endeavors, and the split nearly ended the band.

The resulting hiatus did have its upside, allowing Kinder a window both to release a solo EP (under the name "The Wealthy West") and to pen the theme song for The Discovery Channel's new hit show "Bering Sea Gold."  However, in the end, the three remaining members (Kinder, keyboardist Justin Wiseman, and bassist Josh Campbell) agreed they weren't at peace letting The Rocketboys cease to exist.

The initial hurdles of rebuilding, though difficult and disheartening, began to give way to new-found inspiration. Though the song-writing process drastically changed as a result of the reduced lineup, with less cooks in the kitchen, a broader, dynamic range of ideas and visions fermented and flourished.  The end result and forthcoming album is Build Anyway.

Build Anyway is set for a June 5th release. The band will be touring nationally May-August; additional dates will be announced soon.

The Spence Kickstarter Project

Well this isn't the first time we have asked you to support a Kickstarter project, and it probably won't be the last. Our friends in the band Spence have had a rather traumatic year (particularly in the touring transportation department) which is detailed quite poignantly on their Kickstarter page. Now a lot of bands are taking this route to fund their projects these days and many of them have a story behind why they need the help. Spence, however, have not only a story, but videos as well, to back up the horrors they went through on tour last year. If you read their story (and watch the videos)  it will be nearly impossible for you to not want to help them.

Like many of the projects on Kickstarter, Spence are reaching for a significant goal of raising $10,000. For any of you new to how Kickstarter works, the band will not receive any of the money raised between now and then unless they achieve that goal. They are offering up and wide range of enticing rewards for supporting their cause including early downloads of the album, your name in the credits of the physical album, online private performances, or for a pledge of $1,500 they will even perform at your house.

So let's help Spence achieve their goal. We have already made a Kickstarter pledge, so what are you waiting for?

About Jimmy Eat World’s Bleed American:
Getting dropped from their major label deal at Capitol Records might have been the best thing that could have happened to Mesa, Arizona's Jimmy Eat World. After spending six years building up a fan base touring and releasing numerous singles and albums to moderate success, the band's relationship with the label soured and they found themselves starting close to square one. Undaunted by the situation, Jimmy Eat World hit the studio with the help of previous producer Mark Trombino. The resulting album incited a small bidding war. The band eventually signed to Dreamworks Records and in July of 2001 Bleed American was released to critical and commercial success. Sharing many elements with the bands previous album, Clarity, Bleed American keeps the sweet, emo-punk flavored vocals and harmonies, the textured guitars and the sticky sweet hooks, but the tone of the album hides something different. A struggle. A test for validation. A yearning to belong. A darker, harder edge is heard instantly with the intro riff of the first song and debut single "Bleed American." On the hit single "The Sweetness", singer and guitarist Jim Adkins calls out " If you're listening, sing it back." What sounds like a love song could easily be a cry for validation to fans and the music industry. But what it all points to is a triumph of great songwriting and success, proving the title of the album couldn't be more appropriate. It's a shame that fearing misinterpretation, the title was removed from the album following the September 11 attacks. Putting your heart out on display, overcoming adversity and the D.I.Y. spirit that built America and independent music perfectly represents the themes throughout this modern day classic. The smash hit single "The Middle" was a radio and MTV staple and helped propel the album to platinum status in the U.S. selling over one million copies.

FUN. :"Some Nights"

Review by Preston McClusky

With all the angry screamo that's been all the rage the last few years, it's really nice to return to fun. Nate Ruess and his compatriots seem to be taking great pride in reminding us that music can be anthemic, theatrical, and well, for lack of a better word...fun. You would have to have been living under a rock somewhere to not have heard the lead single "We Are Young" storming the airwaves the last few months with its infectious sing-along chorus. It really harkens back to the great anthemic rock songs of the 70's from bands like Queen. In fact multiple-tracks on this album seem to owe more than a passing nod to the likes of Queen, Peter Gabriel, and similar theatrically-inclined rockers. Highlights of this album include not only the aforementioned single, but also "Some Nights" and "Carry On". The only track that really reads as awkward and out of place is "Stars", but otherwise this is a resoundingly good album. You really have to applaud the risk taken by producing something so gloriously bold and fun, yet full of so much integrity that it could never be termed a sellout move for popularity.

While frontman Nate Ruess enjoyed a modicum of success with his previous project, The Format, Some Nights  is poised to shoot he and his bandmates into the stratosphere of success. Not that many people get a chance for a second act as a rockstar and nobody deserves that shot more than Nate Ruess, so go buy this record.

News About The After Party Accident

For Immediate Release

The After Party
Involved In Van Accident Over The Weekend

Band Is Ok and Will Finish Out Remaining Dates On Tour
Supporting for Allstar Weekend

Manhattan, KS’ The After Party were involved in a van accident after their Boston show on Saturday night with Allstar Weekend. While traveling through Roxbury, CT en route to Staten Island, NY, the band’s van veered off the road and over a guard rail. The van was totaled, but luckily no one was injured.

As guitarist Andy Bell explains, “We were pulling an all night drive after our show in Boston to Staten Island, NY. I was driving at the time, and already really low on sleep. We were only five miles away from where we were staying, and I was starting to get really drowsy, but since we were so close I wanted to just finish the drive. I fell asleep for a split second as we came up to a curve, and we ran off the road over a guard rail.  We still made it to the show in Staten Island last night. We had to cram into three different cars and literally walked on stage 20 minutes after arriving at the venue, but we made it happen.“

The After Party has picked up a new van and plans to finish out the remainder of their tour dates with Allstar Weekend.

"Wrecking the van was one of the scariest moments of my entire life and I am so thankful no one got hurt. We seriously appreciate all of the love our fans are giving us, and we are going to do everything in our power to make it all of the remaining shows on the All The Way Tour," says Bell.

Enter Shikari Announce North American Tour

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 16, 2012
" "The smorgasbord of genres we’ve come to expect from Enter Shikari is in full effect, from motor-churning metal and slizzered electro to gritty hip-hop and even tranquil pop." - Alternative Press

“…music for a newly jolted generation, a soundtrack for the mosh-pit, the dance floor and the front lines.” - AMP Magazine

“Hey, 2012. Say hello to the first solid record of the year.” – The NJ Underground
ENTER SHIKARI
ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINING TOUR!

ENTER SHIKARI

Click for hi-res
NEW YORK, NY – Riding on a crest of overwhelmingly glowing press on both sides of the Atlantic (and elsewhere as well!), UK-based electro-punk-rockers ENTER SHIKARI are gearing up for an extensive North American tour that will posit them in Atlanta on April 1st and circle the US for six weeks. Unlike the current trend in Stateside touring of piling multiple bands into compact packages, Enter Shikari instead are taking a much more generous and fair approach and taking only two other bands, Letlive and At the Skylines, along for the ride. (tour dates below)
"The more eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that this tour is made up of a three-band-bill. Believe us, this is deliberate," said the band in a combined statement. "It has long been the belief in Enter Shikari camp that North American audiences have been trained, like customers at a bad diner, to believe that a large full plate makes up for tasteless food. While nobody here thinks that one tour will reverse the trend, we're at least going to give it a go. Instead of cramming what they have to say into 25 minute sets with ten minutes on either side to get their gear on and offstage, each band will be given time to spread their wings, safe in the knowledge that all their onstage ducks are in line."

Titled appropriately enough A FLASH FLOOD OF COLOUR NORTH AMERICAN TOUR 2012 after their album of the same name, this tour makes the first time North American audiences will witness Enter Shikari play a full set in the style that has taken them to selling out 5,000 capacity rooms in the UK (the band's last US jaunt was in November 2010). Hopefully strapped in for the frenzied and frenetic experience, it's safe to say that the continent better be prepared for a doozy. With the continents' media and press battling it out for who can say more positive things about the album, the public at large have responded in kind. A Flash Flood of Colour debuted on UK's Official Album Chart at #1 and their corresponding tour is on its way to sell out over 18,000 tickets across only six shows in advance of its March 17th kick off. Over here in the US, the album debuted at #4 Top Rock Albums (#42 overall albums) on iTunes and was voted by Alternative Press as "Most Anticipated" and made good on that promise by landing a 4.5 stars (out of five), eliciting the praise, "it's a musically adventurous (and surprisingly catchy) album, but the real reason to listen to it is to let Reynolds stimulate your sense beyond the mosh pit." Not to be outdone, UK's music tome NME hailed, "This rage against the machine could well be the four-piece's defining statement." SPIN likened the album as "If the Streets' Mike Skinner chugged drugs at a rave and tried to save the world with metal.”

Co-produced by the band and Dan Weller (Young Guns, Gallows) in Bang Saray, Thailand and London, England during May/June 2011, and mixed in Vancouver, Canada by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica, Biffy Clyro), A Flash Flood Of Colour is Enter Shikari's follow-up to 2009’s acclaimed Common Dreads. An incandescent snapshot of the modern age – of globalization and recession, repression and protest, commerce and control, activism and engagement – it’s music for a newly jolted generation, a soundtrack for the mosh-pit, the dance floor and the front lines.
Enter Shikari is Rou Reynolds (vocals / electronics), Rory Clewlow (guitar / backing vocals), Chris Batten (bass / vocals), and Rob Rolfe (drums). A Flash Flood of Colour was released on January 17, 2012 via Hopeless Records.

While they are not set to hit So Cal again until March, February brought some major Vanna news we want to share with you:

For Immediate Release
February 2nd, 2012

VANNA ANNOUNCES MEMBER CHANGES AND INTRODUCE NEW GUITARIST

In the world of music members  in bands make choices every day to move onto other things, be it new projects, start families, or begin a different career path.  The internet is abound with drama and opinions when this happens, but the fact is that this is a part of everyday life in the music industry. These hard choices usually affect the band members' left behind as well as the label, management and most importantly  the fans. Most rise up and charge on. This is the case with Boston's own Vanna.  Evan Pharmakis (guitarist/vocalist)and Chris Campbell (drummer) have chosen to part ways with the band and move forward.  They have decided that the touring life isn't for them any longer and do not wish to continue doing so. This doesn't come as a surprise to the band or those close to us. Evan has been dealing with this choice for almost a year now, and Chris has missed a few tours the past few months as well in order to work and focus on home. They both have family obligations as well as financial reasons for leaving their spots behind and everyone in our camp stands behind and supports them in making these very hard decisions.  They feel that staying home and no longer touring with the band is the best possible decision for them as well as us. We are happy that they have been honest and have given us the opportunity to find people that want it too. We want to be on the road and playing music with people who are in it 100% and love this with all their heart. We never want to hold anyone back and wish them both the best in their future endeavors. With that being said, we will be moving forward on the best year of touring this band has ever seen or done. We've added new Guitarist/Vocalist Joel Pastuszak to the fold and couldn't be happier with him. Joel has played and toured  in many New England based bands . We've actually been working with Joel for quite a while, knowing Evan's situation, and can't wait for all of you to meet and hear/see him on the road with us. He's already very much a part of the family. As far as drummers, we have fill-ins lined up and we are ready to get out on the road to see  all of you and keep this non-stop train moving, as there is no way we'll be slowing down. We are currently headlining Europe and the United Kingdom, followed by the Artery Sick Tour in the U.S., then right into Vans Warped Tour this summer with writing and recording plans in the future as well. We know this will come as a surprise to a lot of you, but just understand this, Vanna is an idea, a passion, a movement - it's not about the people, it's about the music and love for what we do, and believe us, we have more passion and love for this now than we ever have. If you believe in the music, if it means something to you, and always has, don't stop the support, keep it up. We need you now more than ever. Come out to a show, meet Joel, hang with us and let's keep this community alive and well. We love you guys with our whole hearts! This is a big year, be a part of it with us.
Statement from Evan Pharmakis (guitarist/vocals):
"I'm sad to say that as of now I will no longer be a part of Vanna.  I've decided that due to my current situation and not being able to fully support myself after seven years of hard work, it's time to start taking responsibility for my life, and move on. This band has grown a lot over the years and with growth comes change. When we started Vanna it was because we loved playing music, and once it developed it was this balance of writing what we loved while still creating music that all our fans would enjoy. Mixing business into that equation is a difficult task, and with five completely different personalities it's a hard act to balance. I've been struggling for the last two years trying to make it work for me and my life, and as much as I love it, I have to let it go.
The lyrics I wrote and sang in Vanna were about real life situations I went through and will always mean a lot to me. I hope they continue to help anyone who listens to them, through their life problems and difficult times. I hold no grudges towards the band and hope they hold none against me, and I wish the guys the best of luck with their decision to move on.  I also hope that the fans we have won't take this too hard. The most special part of being in this band, for me, was seeing how much it meant to so many people. I pushed through the loneliness, anxiety and difficulty I have of traveling just to be there for everyone our music meant something to.
I love you all, every person with a Vanna tattoo, every person that felt a connection to the music, every person I stayed up late chatting on Facebook with about different problems they were going through. I couldn't possibly explain how much you all have meant to me. If you still want to hear me play music, you can check out my band "wind in sails" and I promise I'll keep writing honest music that I put my all into. Thank you all again so much for everything. The last seven years have been an experience I will never forget. To all my friends around the world, thank you for all your help, love and friendship. It means more than you know. Thank you all again very  much. You are the white light, don't forget that."
Statement from Chris Campbell (drummer):
After two full length records, an EP, countless US tours, 3 incredible European tours I will no longer be playing drums in Vanna. I absolutely love playing music, and will continue to play but, it's time for me to move forward with my life. Vanna fans are some of the most die-hard music fans I've ever had the privilege of being involved with. Everything has been for you guys. Thanks to everyone who came to a show, bought a cd, or just hung out. It was rad.

The Jealous Sound: "A Gentle Reminder"

The last day of January brought the release of A Gentle Reminder, reminding everyone, albeit not that gently, that The Jealous Sound were, and are, a damn good band. Nine years have elapsed since their first full length effort, and original members Blair and Pedro have been joined by Nate (of Foo Fighters acclaim) and new drummer Bob Penn. Together they have crafted a serious contender for one of the best albums of the year.

There is a reality, and depth of feeling to this album that is intriguingly reminiscent of one of the other best indie bands of this era, Jimmy Eat World. It's a little like they can tap into very universal thoughts and emotions but strain them through a prism of poetic lyricism. Blair's voice is as good or better than ever, and this disc benefits greatly from stunningly gorgeous production. This album couldn't have been engineered or mixed any better. This album is built to be a huge, successful, famous album (a la The Foos) if only enough people can pass it around and build up its' buzz.

Escape The Fate and Attack Attack!
Announce Co-Headline
This World Is Ours Tour
Featuring Support from
The Word Alive, Secrets and Mest

Trek Kicks Off April 5 in Buffalo, NY

Tickets To Go On Sale On Friday, February 10, 2012 At

Two of rock’s most talked about bands, Escape the Fate and Attack Attack!, are joining forces on a co-headliner, dubbed the This World Is Ours Tour. The trek, which features support from The Word Alive, Secrets and Mest, will kick off April 5th in Buffalo, NY and wind down on May 16th in Vancouver, BC.

Currently the best-selling band on Rise Records, Attack Attack! has toured non-stop over the past 4 years, bringing their insane live show to every corner of the world. Last summer found the band headlining the Vans Warped Tour, marking their 3rd time on the tour.

Attack Attack!’s recently released third album, This Means War, landed at #11 on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart in its debut week, proving to critics and naysayers alike that the Ohio band is making an impact on music fans. AllMusic.com calls This Means War, “their hardest hitting and most coherent record to date.” Columbus Alive! describes the record as, “…the sound of Attack Attack! shaking off shackles. Somehow both heavier and poppier, more streamlined yet less boxed-in, it redefines them.” The Knoxville News Sentinel raves, “The death-metal, screamo, heavy-rock act rarely hits the brakes, with machine-gun guitar riffs and screeching vocals by Caleb Shomo swarming and suffocating the mix. There’s also old-fashioned punk fury racing through this polished, modern metal mayhem, and even traces of funk.” Underthegunreview.net says, “This Means War should be acknowledged as a fine album. It’s visceral, urgent, and compelling, powered by a passion and intensity so deep-rooted as to be tangible. (It) easily lives up to its name in ambition and scope – from the outset, it’s determined to set a radical, vociferous agenda and it pushes itself to hitherto unexplored heights. It’s excellently made and a testimony to the band’s growth...”

Escape The Fate are currently in the midst of recording a new album, their second with producer John Feldmann (The Used, D.R.U.G.S.). The Las Vegas quartet has toured relentlessly with everyone from Bullet For My Valentine to Hollywood Undead, and in the process has cultivated a diehard following cementing their status as one of hard rocks most intense live acts.

Nominated for a Kerrang! Music Award in the “Best Album” category, Revolver Magazine described the band’s most recent self-titled release as, “tread(ing) the tightrope between good times and introspection, between rollicking rock, raging post-hardcore, and tender balladry,“ and Outburn Magazine declared it, “a compelling modern day masterpiece.”

Tickets for the This World Is Ours Tour wil go on sale Friday, February 10, 2012. Visit www.thisworldisourstour.com for details.
