Dr. Acula: "Nation"

I will be the first to admit that I just don't get the appeal of listening to deathcore. As such, I cannot say that I walked away from Dr. Acula's latest release, Nation, with any change to that opinion. However, I have been to enough hardcore shows to realize from listening to Nation, that this band is probably a lot of fun live. In the live arena you can get swept up in the power and aggression of albums like this in a much more palpable way. Listening to the recorded version, however, you can't help but think that no one is really this angry and bitter about absolutely everything, so it kinda comes off as a bit of a schtick. For me, the most interesting thing about this album was the use of William Control as the narrator, although even that technique was much more effectively utilized by Alesana on The Emptiness.
