The Jealous Sound: "A Gentle Reminder"

The last day of January brought the release of A Gentle Reminder, reminding everyone, albeit not that gently, that The Jealous Sound were, and are, a damn good band. Nine years have elapsed since their first full length effort, and original members Blair and Pedro have been joined by Nate (of Foo Fighters acclaim) and new drummer Bob Penn. Together they have crafted a serious contender for one of the best albums of the year.

There is a reality, and depth of feeling to this album that is intriguingly reminiscent of one of the other best indie bands of this era, Jimmy Eat World. It's a little like they can tap into very universal thoughts and emotions but strain them through a prism of poetic lyricism. Blair's voice is as good or better than ever, and this disc benefits greatly from stunningly gorgeous production. This album couldn't have been engineered or mixed any better. This album is built to be a huge, successful, famous album (a la The Foos) if only enough people can pass it around and build up its' buzz.
