Combichrist Announce US Tour

March 28, 2011

"Combichrist's Andy LaPlegua has created an aggro-tech monster." - AOL's Noisecreep
"These Norwegians have been making noise so far ahead of their comptemporaries for so long now that Combichrist actually live about 10 years in the future... Making Monsters is the most fully realised Combichrist album to date, a diabolically conceived experience on par with being tortured relentlessly in some psychopathic, BDSM freak's dungeon." - Rock Sound
"... superbly sinister and occasionally gut-thumping... a dark, compelling and disturbingly addictive piece of work." - Kerrang!
And Headlining Dates with iVardensphere and Star Killer
Ultra-Violent and Hyper-Sexual "Throat Full of Glass" Video Stirs Controversy

Click for hi-res version
Atlanta, GA - After a very successful tour of Europe together and two sold out North American shows (one at NYC’s Madison Square Garden, the other at Montreal’s Bell Centre) in 2010, Metropolis recording artists COMBICHRIST will be joining RAMMSTEIN as direct support on their full North American tour in May. Kicking off on May 5th at The Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ, the two bands will travel across the country for what will undoubtedly be an amazing evening of beat-driven metal and industrialized mayhem. In addition to these dates, Combichrist has announced headlining shows with iVardensphere and Star Killer in support of their fifth studio album MAKING MONSTERS which was released last Fall. These shows will run concurrently on off nights with Rammstein and will extend into June (full dates below). Combichrist’s custom VIP program, the “Very F*cking Important Monster” package will be available for all headline shows – details at
"Throat Full of Glass"
video still
Never a band to shy away from controversy, Combichrist unleashed a highly violent and NSFW video for “Throat Full of Glass” which Push to Fire calls, “a grindhouse-fest par excellence… Guns, girls, blood, boobs and dirty money galore … alongside some massive beats! What more could you want?” The censored version can be found here: and the uncensored version here:
Combichrist's much lauded and respected live shows are, as Crypt Magazine describes, "known for tons of energy, blood, and a rock n' roll attitude." BlogCritics also warns it's "not for the faint of heart - you wouldn't bring your grandmother to this show.

Making Monsters was released on September 28, 2010 via Metropolis Records. The live incarnation is comprised of Andy LaPlegua, longtime live drummer Joe Letz (Amen, Emigrate), keyboardist Z. Marr (Pull Out Kings), and Trevor Friedrich (Eighteen Visions, Imperative Reaction, Suffer Well). Abbey Nex (Psyclon 9, Genitorturers) will also be accompanying the band as a guitarist on this tour.

Jordan Bolton: "Silver Age"

Back in October we covered Manchester singer-songwriter Jordan Bolton when he was releasing his debut EP Jazz Hands. Jordan is back, with even better, more refined material on his second EP, “Silver Age”. This talented multi-instrumentalist continues to produce gorgeous work, created on his own terms. Combining the glorious moodiness of Pete Yorn and the catchy glimmer of old-school bands like The Beach Boys, Jordan creates a sound uniquely his own. Both "Black and Blue" and "Control" sit  well amongst recent material from contemporaries like Band of Horses, Bobby Long, Yeasayer and Civil Twilight. For a brand new artist to produce material of this quality is a rare find indeed. Jordan may just find himself the subject of a label bidding war before he even issues his first full length.

At this point, you aren’t going to get to see him live unless you happen to live in the Manchester area, but with a bit of time and luck that will likely change. Talent tends to rise to the top in the sea of mediocrity. If Jordan can land opening spots for bigger bands as they head through Manchester things could quickly change.

In the meantime be sure to hit up his Myspace to check out the new songs. Jordan tells me that some or all of these songs may potentially find their way onto his first full length album release in one form or another, but in the meantime we will have to be content with streaming them.

D.R.U.G.S. on The AP Tour

Despite extreme ambivalence about the band name, it's great to see these boys back on the road and having such a great time.

Warped Tour Pre-Sale Has Begun

Just a reminder that today begins the pre-sale for Warped Tour 2011 tickets. Buying on pre-sale is always a good idea, because it gets you early entry. Due to the rotating nature of set times it is an all too frequent occurrence that bands you wanted to see may come on before you even make it through the gates due to the long lines at the start of the day. So buy now, get a group together, and plan to carpool. Also, don't forget to check your particular venues rules about bringing water and such things, as they do vary from venue to venue.

AP Tour Pomona: The Review

The Glasshouse played host to the latest edition of the AP Tour on Thursday night, featuring Conditions, Versa Emerge, I See Stars, Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows, and Black Veil Brides. Uncertain weather did not discourage a significant line from developing long before doors opened, with the Black Veil Brides faithful leading the charge to get in first. Though the volume of kids in full on face paint was smaller than expected, those that were there were very enthusiastic.

Conditions and Versa Emerge suffered the smallest and least enthusiastic crowds, the throes of being the openers. Conditions seem to be the band most poised to develop a significant new fan base, but are definitely going to have to earn it on this tour, as the least known entity. While they held the direct center spot of the night, coming on third, I See Stars, had by far the biggest and most enthusiastic crowd of the night, which thinned out only slightly before Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows. It was great to see the crowd give front man Craig Owens an enthusiastic welcome back, dismissing the irony that his former bandmates (Chiodos) would be taking the stage at an adjacent venue the following night. D.R.U.G.S. tore through a very tight set, and seemed by all accounts to be having an extremely good time, which translated well for the audience, especially when Craig made his way into the fray.

The crowd did, however, thin out dramatically by the time Black Veil Brides hit the stage. This was an unfortunate occurrence for the headliner, but can most likely be blamed on the extremely young crowd, and the fact that it was a school night. Those that did stay were treated to a short yet enthusiastic set that really highlighted the stellar guitar work of Jake Pitts. Front man Andy Six focused a lot of energy to interacting with those kids that did stay, paying special attention to a couple of extremely small kids, in full on BVB makeup standing at the corner of the pit.

For anyone headed to upcoming dates on the tour, if you are going for one of the early bands, be sure to stick around and check out Black Veil Brides. They are an extremely good live band, a bit like seeing Motley Crue back in the day when they were just kids.

AP Tour Pomona: The Photos

They've Seen A Million Faces and Rocked Them All

Okay, so maybe not quite a million, but a bunch of really happy kids at The Glasshouse in Pomona for the latest stop on the AP Spring Tour featuring Black Veil Brides and D.R.U.G.S.

More photos and details to come.

Honey Honey: Live in LA

If you are loving that slightly off-kilter, time-traveled from another age feel of bands like Mumford and Sons, then honeyhoney may be just up your alley. It has always been hard to be a band that jumps genres and defies categorization because it makes you a tough commodity to sell, but at the same time it makes you far more interesting than the cookie-cutter pop stars populating the airwaves these days. Singer Suzanne Santo has that seriously sexy, jazzy tone to her voice that propelled Norah Jones to international fame, and Ben Jaffe has long ago mastered being the yin to her yang. Their unique video for "Little Toy Gun" seriously plays up that old time feel, and features a cameo from Ironworks label head Kiefer Sutherland. Seems they have a new record on the way Billy Jack (release date TBD) but why wait, check them out live in LA on the final date of their residency at The Bootleg or on their upcoming tour opening for Xavier Rudd.

There are two upcoming LA shows:
Next Monday 3/28 at The Bootleg

5/2 at The El Rey opening for Xavier Rudd

Red Wanting Blue: "These Magnificent Miles: On The Long Road With Red Wanting Blue"

Red Wanting Blue have been a band a very, very long time. They have kept at it long after lesser men would have packed it in, given up on their dreams, and settled into “real” jobs for good. Thankfully, they are not lesser men. They have held on tight, produced the album of their career, and garnered the attentions of a famous Broadway producer who both produced and directed These Magnificent Miles, On The Long Road With Red Wanting Blue. While the attentions of a Broadway producer may seem odd, considering that Red Wanting Blue are an indie rock band, Ken Davenport is proving that he may not only be the hope for the future of Broadway, but may have provided the necessary kickstart to propel this wonderful band into the national consciousness.

They have no gimmicks, no crazy outfits, no massive pyro, and fourteen year-old girls are not screaming at the stage door, but that’s ok. Red Wanting Blue are a proper, grown-up rock band, for people old enough to appreciate that today’s hot young thing is disposable pop, while bands like Red Wanting Blue have spent 14 long, hard years pursuing the dream that just won’t let them go. This beautiful documentary chronicles what it’s like to be the little band that never gave up. It shows front man Scott Terry’s concerns about growing older in a younger man’s game, and the awkwardness of being a “rockstar” who still has to work a real job to pay the bills. This documentary not only shows the world the beauty and quality of the music, but the value of pursuing your dreams at all costs. It is certainly an important lesson in today’s cynical world, and a sentiment that is beautifully portrayed in Red Wanting Blue’s “Finger In The Air”, the song that has become an anthem for both the band and their fans about never giving up.

The Hours at The Bootleg

Excellent show coming to LA on Thursday, The Hours at The Bootleg. If you are not familiar with the band, read about their stellar pedigree below. They made AP's 100 Bands You Need to Know in 2011, so get out and start knowing them. With all the troubles UK bands have been having with visas lately it may be a rare chance.

The Hours w/ Army Navy, Chasing Kings

  • Bootleg Theater Los Angeles, CA
  • Thu, March 24, 2011 8:30 PM (Doors: 8:00 PM)
  • $10.00
  • 21 and Over
The Hours, one of the most dynamic and provocative rock ensembles on the London music scene today, got their start when singer-songwriter-guitarist Antony Genn (whose BritPop credentials include stints with Pulp and Elastica), and multi-instrumentalist Martin Slattery (whose resume includes playing with Shaun Ryder's Black Grape) formed The Mescaleros with then-former Clash-frontman Joe Strummer in 1999. The Mescaleros performed their first gig in Genn's hometown of Sheffield in June 1999 and Antony (who'd been all of 8 when London Calling first hit the record store racks) co-wrote and co-produced Rock Art and the X Ray Style, the highly-acclaimed album that marked Strummer's long-awaited return to music.

Oliver Trolley: "Circles"

Poppy pointlessness on the surface with surprisingly introspective thoughts hidden just underneath. Featuring former members of San Diego local favs Misdelphia, Oliver Trolley seem to already be on the fast track for success with their debut EP, Circles, due to be released by Gas Can Music on March 29th.

While the entire record is super catchy, toe-tapping, summer road trip with the top down kind of Cali sound, the real jaw-dropper is the final track, “Way Too Fast”, an acoustic ode to a brief relationship.  While inherently simple, the lyrics are disarmingly blunt, showing how two people can see one relationship in starkly different ways. Not since Rise Against bolted into wide public consciousness with “Swing Life Away”, has there been such an infectious, instantly memorable acoustic tune. By the time you make it through the song on the first listen, you are guaranteed to be singing the chorus.

As a first shot off the bow, “Circles”, seems primed to create an audience eager to demand a full-length release from this up-and-coming band. The dance vibe and gang-vocals of “Getting’ Loud” are guaranteed to make it fun live, as does the mild ska feel of the title track. While their sound is their own, the oddly familiar feeling you get listening to the opening of “Maybe I Could Tell” is “Pretty Odd” era Panic. (it took twelve listens through to figure that out - hopefully that saves you the aggravation of trying to figure it out for yourselves).

For those willing to make the trek to San Diego, the band will be playing at gig at HOB San Diego as part of 91X’s loudspeaker on April 2nd, but once people get their hands on this EP there will likely be many more shows to come.

01. Livin' My Life
02. Maybe I Could Tell
03. Circles
04. Gettin' Loud!
05. Face to Face
06. Way Too Fast

Musicians Reach Out to Help Japan

Musicians as a group have a stellar reputation for trying to help out worthy causes whenever they can. Bit by bit, projects are starting to roll in to benefit those stricken by the disaster in Japan. Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park fame has designed a couple of tshirts to raise money which can be found on their site.

We also want to share with you the following press release:

A collection of bands (including The Wonder Years, Valencia, Title Fight, La Dispute, Man Overboard, Transit and more) have come together to release a compilation of rare tracks to benefit the victims of the earthquake and its after effects in Japan.
The Vs. The Earthquake comp can be purchased at for a minimum $5 donation.

Soupy from The Wonder Years explains, "Last Friday we woke up in Maryland to read the news about the earthquake that struck Northern Japan and as the hours rolled by, things seem to go from awful to, well, worse than awful. News of tsunamis, floods, fires, radiation leaks and more poured in as we sat feeling helpless in the van. The idea struck to maybe text a few of our friends to see if we could get five or six songs together for a short comp to benefit the victims of this tragedy. I think it really speaks to the sense of community we have in this scene that within the two hour drive to Delaware, over 20 bands agreed to be a part of this. The comp is a collection of primarily rare, hard to find or unreleased recordings. The storefront was donated to us by Limited Pressing and currently, Paypal is allowing you to send money to charities without taking any fees. This means that, aside from the standard fee Paypal may take out when money enters an account, 100% of the money will be going to Americares to help the Japanese."

Adam Tyler Press Release

New York, NY– (March 15, 2011) – Following the success of debut single, “Friction” in September 2010, electro-pop artist Adam Tyler continues plans to autograph his name on the scene in permanent ink. In conjunction with Tiger Bay Records, the artist proudly announces the digital release of his next single “I Won’t Let You Go,” one which joins a complete EP due out in July 2011.  Highlighting the artist’s undeniable versatility, the track unites his aggressive electro flair with the accessibility of an easy pop tune.

Adam’s adept and electrified sensibility for melody ignites immense prowess as is evident in his upcoming EP.  His talent has warranted him several opportunities to work with other masters of their craft, such as the notable producer DeeKay (Sugababes), choreographer Stixx (Eminem), Chris Yates (X Factor) and director Dan Shipton (Dancing On Ice).

While a student at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music, the artist quickly found the confines of a classroom were limiting the kind of stage he was aiming to take. Opting to take a risk, Adam took a departure from his coursework and at the age of 22, it was met with reward.  The artist was quickly recruited by the creator of Hollywood Records’ band, Youngstown, for his new act. The Missouri native jumped at the opportunity and relocated to Los Angeles, ultimately yearning to tackle the industry on his own.

Up next for the artist, Adam looks forward to taking his work on the road, with nationwide performances including Los Angeles, New York, and abroad in London this year.

One of music's most iconic frontmen, Dave Gahan has become a hero to millions as the voice of Depeche Mode. His commanding vocals helped establish the legendary group's signature sound, which has left an indelible legacy on indie and popular music. Today, Depeche Mode remains among a select premier league of recording artists who have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, making them one of the most successful bands in history. With Gahan as their frontman, all of the band's 12 studio releases have reached the Top 10, not only in the UK and United States, but in more than 20 countries around the globe. Gahan, who is renowned for his electric stage presence and high-energy performances, has consistently propelled Depeche Mode's larger than life live shows to new heights. This was truly evident on the band's recent world tour, which spanned 102 shows across 40 countries to more than 2.7 million people, including arenas and stadiums.

Although Gahan has fronted Depeche Mode for more than 30 years, 2003 marked his debut as a fully-fledged songwriter for the band. He has also gone on to become an accomplished solo artist in his own right, having releasing two critically acclaimed albums, including 2003's Paper Monsters and 2007's Hourglass.
Kevin Lyman began his career booking bands for his university and as a roadie for then unknown acts such as Bad Religion, the Bangles and the Untouchables. Later he was a promoter representative for seminal punk rock and metal bands, working in many of the legendary L.A. clubs. Lyman is best known as the creator of the Vans Warped Tour, the longest-running music and extreme sports festival in the world today. In addition, he also is co-producer of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, Rockstar Energy Drink Taste of Chaos tour and Willie Nelson's Country Throwdown.
In 2005, Lyman established the Unite The United Foundation, an organization set up to encourage fans, artists and industry leaders from the music, touring and lifestyle worlds to come together through charitable contributions, events and volunteer efforts in order to work toward positive change in our national community. Since its inception, Unite The United has raised more than $1 million for a variety of causes such as EarthEco International, Hollywood Heart, KeepABreast Foundation, MusiCares, Music Saves Lives, and Skate 4 Cancer to name a few. In recognition of his philanthropic and eco-friendly efforts, Lyman was honored with the Humanitarian Award at the Billboard Touring Awards in 2009.
MusiCares recently announced the launch of an innovative fundraising campaign aimed at the public to create the world's largest photo mosaic comprised of one million photo tiles. "Be A Part Of The Heart" encourages fans, recording artists, and corporate and media partners to come together to raise awareness and generate resources to help MusiCares continue to provide a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need. Participants can visit and make a contribution of $1 to receive an online tile, where they can upload a photo and include their stories and links to websites and social media platforms. There is no limit to the donation amount and the tiles that go with it. Tiles can be created in honor of loved ones, to commemorate important milestones or holidays, and to engage other members of the public. There also is a place to include text about key musical influences. In addition, the initiative offers a chance to win two tickets to the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards. The "Be A Part Of The Heart" program will continue throughout 2011 with a special unveiling event and concert to be announced in December.
MusiCares offers programs and services to members of the music community including emergency financial assistance for basic living expenses including rent, utilities and car payments; medical expenses including doctor, dentist and hospital bills; psychotherapy; and treatment for HIV/AIDS, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, hepatitis C, and other critical illnesses. MusiCares offers nationwide educational workshops covering a variety of subjects, including financial, legal, medical, and substance abuse issues, and programs in collaboration with healthcare professionals that provide services such as flu shots, hearing tests and medical/dental screenings.
The MusiCares MAP Fund allows access to addiction recovery treatment and sober living resources for members of the music community regardless of their financial circumstances. Staffed by qualified chemical dependency and intervention specialists, MusiCares Safe Harbor Rooms offer a support network to those in recovery while they are participating in the production of televised music shows and other major music events. MusiCares holds weekly addiction support groups for people to discuss how to best cope with the issues surrounding the recovery process. Established in 1989 by The Recording Academy, MusiCares provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need. MusiCares' services and resources cover a wide range of financial, medical and personal emergencies, and each case is treated with integrity and confidentiality. Jacobs Ladder

For Immediate Release

Miami progressive power pop/rock outfit Jacobs Ladder announces its new Back to Life EP due out April 1st. Already a fixture and fan favorite on the Southeast touring circuit, having played over 550 shows and counting with such bands as Fallout Boy, Forever The Sickest Kids and Bayside, to name a few, Jacobs Ladder is bound for even bigger things with the new recording, produced by Carlos de la Garza (Neon Trees, Reel Big Fish).

Through the band’s relentless touring schedule and killer live set, Jacobs Ladder have managed to make fans out of some of their musical heroes, such as New Found Glory’s Cyrus Bolooki who raves, “Jacobs Ladder has worked hard to establish their unique sound in South Florida, and now look to bring it to the masses. Tight harmonies, catchy melodies, and driving rhythms, that bring a fresh spin to a familiar genre.”

In a recent interview with Absolutepunk, Jacobs Ladder drummer Brian Hernandez explained the band’s main objective by stating, “We strive to play good quality rock music. We want to make people feel the way our favorite bands make us feel. I think we have the potential to quench some musical thirsts and fill some voids left from the days when bands brought originality.”

Fresh off a NYC industry showcase at Manhattan’s famed Arlene’s Grocery earlier this month, the 3-piece has just confirmed a hometown EP release party at Churchill’s in Miami on April 8th with support from Arboles Libres, Deaf Poets, Hit Play and others (details below).

Sleeping At Last

As I prepare to move I have been going through massive stacks of mix tapes, both labeled and unlabeled to organize them for the journey. Some of these I have created from the increasing number of assorted songs that artists and labels are kind enough to send me, and others are things friends have made me to check out their bands, their friends bands, or just  bands they really like. The final track on the one I have been listening to for the last few days is "Careful Hands" by Sleeping At Last. Until today I had no idea who it was. I had just been obsessively listening to it on repeat, thinking it sounded a lot like Copeland, which is absolutely a good thing. For a band this amazing, that have been around since 1998, I find myself to be ashamed that I have not stumbled over them sooner. They have an extensive discography that I am sure, from what little I have heard so far, is amazing and well worth checking out, but as a start you have to download the song that started it all, for me anyway, "Careful Hands". They are also a band that pays meticulous attention to gorgeous artwork on their releases to be sure to check that out as well. More details as they evolve. Friend the band on Facebook by clicking the title above to link to their page. The band is currently at work on a project entitled "Yearbook" in which they are releasing 12 EP's all named for the month in which they are released. Learn all about it by going to the Sleeping At Last website, where you can purchase each month or the entire set. For those who like physical product, I have read that there is a possibility there may be a physical release in the works.

When it concluded, the band members, singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool, sifted through the audio to deliver the best performances from their shows around the world.  An iTunes Exclusive edition of the audio portion will feature two bonus tracks. The footage on the bonus DVD was shot at the band’s show in Tokyo, Japan. The package includes Green Day’s biggest hits and fan favorites, including “21 Guns,” “American Idiot,” “When I Come Around,” and “Good Riddance.” See below for full track-listing.

Critics raved about the 21st Century Breakdown tour, which launched in North America in July of 2009. “As if releasing a wave of energy that had been building up during their four-year hiatus from touring, Green Day poured all their heart and soul into a powerhouse set,” said Rolling Stone, while Spin noted that “the band's relationship with its audience is disarmingly real.”

Released by Reprise Records on May 15th, 2009, 21st Century Breakdown debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, won a 2009 Grammy Award for “Best Rock Album,” and has sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide. It has spawned the hit singles “Know Your Enemy,” which has been certified gold, and the platinum-selling “21 Guns,” whose video won three 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, including “Best Rock Video.”
